Jungkook: 24 July Year 22

The words “Welcome back, Jungkook” were written on the wall of the container, but it wasn’t that kind of atmosphere. It was like the air inside the small shipping container was about to explode with tension. The more I think about it, it’s always like that these days. 

 

Seokjin blasted out of the shipping container in an instant. Taehyung rushed after him, and the others followed after exchanging glances with each other. Taehyung said something to Seokjin, but it didn’t seem like Seokjin was listening. I watched the others get into Seokjin’s car from behind. 

 

The car slowly backed up and then turned to the side. The light from the shipping container skimmed over the body of the car. I saw the evidence of my accident on the bumper of the car briefly before it was covered in darkness. The strange thing was that I felt okay when I saw it. When you go through with confirming something you already know, it’s natural to have complicated feelings and to feel shocked when standing in front of the cold hard truth. But reality wasn’t like that for me.

 

Seokjin’s car was disappearing into the darkness when I saw the headlights that were approaching me that night overlayed on the body of his car. It all came back to me. The feeling of my body flying, the moment when I couldn’t swallow or breathe, the fear when my entire body shook convulsively, and the unbearable coldness as I was losing consciousness. The shadow of death. And the indent of the accident on the bumper that I saw in that moment. 

 

I went inside the shipping container. I sat in a chair while looking up at the “Welcome back, Jungkook” sign that Jimin wrote. The leg that I hurt in the accident was suddenly in immense pain. My friends were likely not thinking of coming back. They were having a conversation that I knew nothing about.
