Yoongi: 2 May Year 22

They said it was a scar that was going to last a while. That it would heal over time. That it wasn’t that big, and it would get a lot better if it was constantly treated. On the third day of being hospitalized, the doctor removed the gauze and revealed my burn. Not crimson, but instead the skin on my left arm had turned black. It was my body, but it felt like it wasn’t. It was unfamiliar. When I dropped the lighter, I was prepared to get more than this. But I just got this scar. It was the opposite of what I expected. 

 

“It will hurt a little.” As the doctor started dressing my wound, blood came gushing out. The white gauze filled with blood in an instant. That day, scarlet flames rolled out around me like I was going to be swallowed up. I tried to endure the pain, but I let out a groan. The doctor said that the blood was a good sign. That it was evidence that there was new skin under the dead skin. I let out a fake laugh amidst the pain. How is it possible that new things come only after dead things? What if I had died at that time? What if that was the only way for everything to start new again? 

 

I looked down at my arm. Blood lightly oozed out of the newly wrapped gauze. I called the bloodstain fire, and the doctor called it new life. I wonder who is right.
